Artist Statement
During my time as a Fine Arts/Art major, I have learned about several mediums of art, and the medium I am drawn to is clay. As a medium, clay is very forgiving, and I am constantly learning through the process of trial and error.
Through these experiences, I have developed skills and created whimsical animals that bring me joy. When I create my whimsical animals, I usually choose chickens because I’ve grown up around them and am entertained by their reactions to the simplest items, such as bread or a piece of cardboard. During the creative process, each of my sculptures tend to adopt a bit of my comical/playful personality.
These sculptures represent the inner child that I’ve had to hold back due to becoming independent at a young age. I believe everyone had to set aside their inner child in order to tackle the difficulties of reality and that is okay. There are times when we want to escape reality, why not do it now?
